Dialysis

Dialysis is a treatment that cleans waste products out of the blood once your kidneys no longer can. Through dialysis, you can live a long and high quality life.

There are two types of dialysis:

Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis and both have home and in-center options as well as multiple methods.

  • Hemodialysis (HD) cleans the blood using a filter called an artificial kidney.
  • Hemodialysis can be done in special facilities called dialysis centers or at home.
  • Peritoneal dialysis (PD) cleans the blood using the lining of the abdomen, called the peritoneum, as a filter.
  •  Peritoneal dialysis is typically done at home.

You can learn more about these treatments in the course
